Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 6 months AGO
HAYDEN LAKE — Coeur d’Alene sophomore Ben Focke beat fellow Viking sophomore Hunter Paquin in a playoff for medalist honors as Coeur d’Alene claimed the 6A District 1 golf championship on Tuesday at Avondale Golf Club.
Both Focke and Paquin shot an even par 72 for Coeur d’Alene, which beat Lake City by nine strokes to advance to state Oct. 9-10 at RedHawk Golf Course in Nampa.
Lake City junior Trey Lambert, who was fourth in a card-off at state as a freshman, qualified for state, finishing third with a 74.
Only the regional champion and top three individual finishers advance to state.
It is the sixth straight district/regional title for the Coeur d'Alene boys and third straight for the girls.
Coeur d’Alene sophomore Ella Wilson, last year’s state 6A champion, won the girls medalist with a 4-over 76.
Coeur d’Alene sophomores Leah Heavener (78) and Jossetta Williams (86) finished second and third respectively.
“Our kids played outstanding today on a tough course,” Coeur d’Alene girls golf coach Jeff Lake said. “Districts is always pressure-packed and nerves come out, but our golfers did a great job of managing the stress of it all. We are extremely excited for state next week at RedHawk.”
