Bonners Ferry High School’s homecoming celebrations were highlighted with a 49-7 win by the Badgers football team over Kellogg.

After the football game, the Future Farmers of America organized portable fire pits for a tailgate until 11 p.m. The next night, the official dance was held at a barn around 15 miles from town.

In the week leading up to Friday, the high school students had themed outfits every day, with dress as Adam Sandler Day on Wednesday proving a hit amongst the students.

On Friday, a parade went through downtown, with floats made for the event and the football game. At the end of the parade, the students had a pre-game tailgate at Mountain West. Later, the annual powderpuff game was held, where boys have pom-poms while girls play football.

A side effect of the celebrations is what principal Lisa Iverson calls homecoming hangover week. On the Monday after homecoming, student energy levels “crash” and there is usually a decrease in attendance.

Iverson praised Haley Wenk, the student council advisor, for being a major reason that homecoming ran smoothly for everyone involved.

“I can’t speak enough of her and the advisors,” Iverson said. “She ran such an organized homecoming week. It was overall a really, really successful homecoming week.”

The next big event for the school is Volley for a Cure, a local volleyball game on Oct. 7 in the school gym to raise money for breast cancer.
