PINEHURST — Priest River High freshman Tadhg McLaimtaig ran to a new personal best time of 17 minutes, 36 seconds — 26 seconds ahead of the runner-up — to claim victory at the Ben Castro Invite hosted by Kellogg High at Pinehurst Golf Course on Thursday afternoon.

Junior Daniel Gunkle placed fifth out of 18 total runners with a new personal best time of 18 minutes, 17 seconds for the Spartans, which were two runners short of compiling a team score. Sophomore Maxwell Hewitt was 12th with a new personal best time of 20 minutes, 36 seconds.

For the Lady Spartans, senior Capri White finished sixth out of 26 runners with a new personal best time of 22 minutes, 39 seconds. Senior Kyla White was eighth in a new personal best time of 22 minutes, 51 seconds.

Junior Alannah McLaimtaig (10th, 23:31), freshman Maiyu Smith (14th, 26:12) and junior Breelynn Duran (15th, 26:17) rounded out the top five scorers for Priest River, which placed second out of three scoring teams. Smith and Duran's times were new personal bests while McLaimtaig's was a season best.

Freshman Abagail Shaulis added a 16th-place finish on the girls' side for Priest River, which returns to action Saturday for the 8th Annual Battle for the 509 at the Spokane Polo Grounds.
