5A REGION 1 GOLF: Lakeland girls, Zachary qualify for state tournament

MOSCOW — Junior Dani Russell finished second overall, sophomore Ellie Austad fourth as the Lakeland girls golf team qualified for state by finishing runner-up in the 5A Region 1 tournament on Friday at the University of Idaho Golf Course.

Russell shot 90, Austad 95.

Lakeland shot a 398, finishing 10 strokes behind regional champion Lewiston. 

The top two teams and top four individuals qualified for state, which is Oct. 10-11 at Purple Sage Golf Course in Caldwell.

Lakeland junior Tyler Zachary, who was seventh at state in 2024, also qualified individually for state, finishing fourth in the boys tournament with an 80.

Lewiston won the boys regional title with a 317, followed by Sandpoint, which shot a 322 to also qualify for state.
