PREP VOLEYBALL: Bonners Ferry battles but suffers a narrow home defeat

The Bonners Ferry High School girls varsity volleyball team played with passion and perseverance, but the result was a five-set loss to Couer D’Alene.
In the first set, Bonners Ferry pulled away after a close start to win 25-15. Juniors Taren Bateman and Eva Willis in particular were impressive with their spiking ability and their defense.
The second set was much more back and forth. Bonners Ferry pulled out to a 5-0 lead, before it became 14-9 Coeur D’Alene. Bonners ferry would tie it 15-15, but Couer D'Alene won the set 25-18.
The third set was an incredible display for the Badgers, as they went down at different points 6-0, 11-4 and 18-12, only to tie the game 25-25. Though they ultimately lost the set 28-26, sophomore Sammi Cummings was impressive throughout the set and junior Aspen Graham completely changed the momentum with a number of impressive serves.
With momentum on their side after the comeback in the third set, Bonners Ferry dominated the fourth set. The score was 9-4 Badgers after the first timeout and by the end it was an easy 25-10 win to set up a winner take all fifth set.
The Badgers were down early, losing 6-2 and later 10-6. Despite the win looking out of reach, they battled back and gave it their best, ultimately losing 15-12 to Couer D’Alene High School.
