NIC ROUNDUP: Rommes scores four goals as NIC women win 13-0

COEUR d’ALENE — With a week to work on things, North Idaho College coach Kellsi Parson wanted to get freshman Hannah Rommes more time with the ball in her possession. 

On Saturday, that moved paid off big. 

Rommes, from Grants Pass, Ore., scored four goals — all in the first half — for the Cardinals in a 13-0 win over the Pacific Northwest Christian Gladiators of Kennewick, Wash., at Eisenwinter Field. 

“We wanted to put her more centrally with the ball,” Parson said of Rommes. “She makes plays and we wanted to have it with her as much as she needed it today. She was just in the right place at the right time.” 

Freshmen Madeline Cook and Molly McClennan had two goals each for NIC (5-4-2, 5-2-1 SWAC), which hosts Truckee Meadows (1-9, 1-7) of Reno, Nev., on Thursday.

COEUR d’ALENE — Sophomore midfielders Daniel Gutierrez and Judah Straight scored two goals each in the first half for the Cardinals in a Scenic West Athletic Conference win over the Gladiators of Kennewick, Wash., at Eisenwinter Field. 

“The guys played well,” NIC men’s soccer coach Brad Williams said. “I’m happy we’re getting our goals back and with the way we played today.” 

NIC (8-4-1, 4-3-1 SWAC) hosts Truckee Meadows (3-8, 2-6) of Reno, Nev., on Thursday.

COEUR d’ALENE — Madilyn Harper, a sophomore middle blocker from Blackfoot High, had six kills for the Cardinals in a 25-15, 25-12, 25-11 Scenic West Athletic Conference sweep of the Spartans of Rangely, Colo., at Christianson Gymnasium. 

Allie Ferrin, a sophomore from University High in Spokane, had five kills, and sophomore Brecklan Weaver had five digs for NIC (12-8, 1-2 SWAC). 

“We got our serve on track today, really putting a lot of pressure on them and they weren’t able to be as aggressive offensively,” NIC coach Drew Pascua said. “And we were able to take advantage in transition.” 

NIC travels to Snow College (8-10, 1-2) next Friday. 

Colorado Northwestern is 3-17, 0-4.
