AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. — Junior Jack Lovin paced the boys, sophomore Ruthie Laughridge paced the girls, and the Sandpoint High cross-country team impressed while competing in the 8th Annual Battle for the 509 Invitational's championship division — the fastest of the event's divisions — held Saturday at the Spokane Polo Grounds.

Lovin was 33rd out 188 runners with a time of 16 minutes, 22 seconds. Sophomore Kai Budensiek placed 48th (16:42.40), senior Paul Kent 70th (16:59.00), sophomore Hobbes Conley 93rd (17:17.10) and junior Trace Evans 96th (17:20.30) to round out the scorers for Sandpoint's boys, which finished ninth out of 23 scoring teams with 280 points. In the No. 6 spot, freshman Landon Connor ran to a new personal best time of 17 minutes, 26.9 seconds and placed 107th.

Freshman Cy Marshall was 10th out of 294 runners in the competitive junior varsity division with a time of 17 minutes, 34.90 seconds.

For the Lady Bulldogs, Laughridge placed 29th out 101 runners with a new personal best time of 19 minutes, 57.1 seconds. Junior Elizabeth Storms placed 36th (20:10.70), sophomore Delaney Barron 63rd (21:01.80), sophomore Lillian Grant 74th (21:24.20) and freshman Sophie Brubaker 80th (21:32.20) to round out the scorers for Sandpoint's girls, which finished 10th out of 12 scoring teams with 222 points. Barron and Grant's times were new personal bests.

Freshman Vivian Schuck was sixth out of 107 runners in the competitive junior varsity division with a new personal best time of 21 minutes, 34.8 seconds.

For Priest River, junior Daniel Gunkle was 115th out of 220 runners in the boys' red division with a time of 19 minutes, 14.8 seconds. Senior Capri White was 125th out of 212 runners in the girls' red division with a time of 22 minutes, 57.1 seconds.

Sandpoint will compete next at the Live Nation Invitational set to be held Thursday at the Gorge Amphitheatre in Quincy, Wash. Priest River is idle until Thursday, Oct. 23, when they'll host the 3A Central Idaho League District Championship at The Ranch Club.
