MOSES LAKE — Crestview Christian School will hold its traditional Fall Festival on Sunday, with bouncy houses, pony rides, games and more on Oct. 12. 

“Thirty-plus years we’ve had Fall Festival, and generally it’s been on a Saturday night,” said Azure Goltz, a volunteer at the school. “This year we decided to try a Sunday afternoon and see how that would work.” 

The event will feature a bounce house, games for all ages and a variety of vegetarian food. There will also be critters to visit with, Goltz said. 

“We have a family bring a calf, and I think they brought a sheep one year,” she said. “So we have a petting zoo where kids get to have first-hand interaction with some animals. Lot of kids probably never actually touch a calf or sheep.” 

Another family will bring a couple of horses, Goltz said, so children can have a gentle ride around the parking lot. 

Games will include a dart toss to pop balloons, a hoop shoot and a huge pumpkin whose weight contestants can try to guess, Goltz said, as well as some easier games for smaller children. 

The event will feature a dessert booth with some autumnal goodies like a pumpkin pie, muffins and caramel corn. 

“We have a beverage (station) where we do root beer floats and Italian sodas,” Goltz said. “That’s been a staple for years … This year, we have a little machine and we’re going to try making fresh mini-doughnuts throughout the afternoon.” 

Crestview Christian School, along with Bright Beginnings Learning Center, is connected to the Moses Lake Seventh-day Adventist Church, and until last year, the church held its services in one half of the school gym, which meant that only the other half was available for the event, Goltz explained. Since the church opened its new building last October, the entire gym is available for the festival. The petting zoo and pony rides will be in the parking lot; the rest of the festival will take place inside. 

The fall festival is held early in October so as not to conflict with Halloween, Goltz said. It’s not a Halloween celebration, so costumes aren’t generally a part of the festivities. 

Admission to the various activities is gained with a $10 wristband, and for students at Crestview and Bright Beginnings, the wristbands are free. The event raises funds for the school, Goltz explained. She wasn’t sure what the money would go for this year, but in past years purchased for playground improvements and new lunchroom chairs. 

“The money is always used at the school,” Goltz said. “None of us get paid. It’s all volunteer work, and a very fun job.”
