One dead in collision near George

Update: The Washington State Patrol has identified the deceased as Carlos A. Rodriguez.

GEORGE — A South Dakota man is dead following a collision two miles north of George on Tuesday afternoon, according to a statement from the Washington State Patrol.

At about 10:40 a.m., a 26-year-old Brookings, S.D., man was driving north on State Route 281 in a 2016 Honda Accord when he crossed the center line and struck a semi driven by Eunice N. Chege, 30, of Puyallup, according to the statement. The man’s car came to rest in the northbound ditch, and the truck in the southbound ditch. 

The man, who was not identified pending notification of the family, was declared deceased at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt. Chege, who was wearing her seat belt, was uninjured. Both vehicles were totaled.
