PREP SOCCER: Lake City rolls on senior night

COEUR d’ALENE — Senior Sawyer Anderson had a goal and an assist on senior night as the Lake City Timberwolves beat Upper Columbia Academy of Spangle, Wash., 7-0 on Monday night under the lights on the Lake City High football field.
Senior Lukas Ruchti had five saves in the shutout for Lake City (7-5-1), and junior Oliver Soumis had two goals and an assist.
“What a night under the lights,” Lake City coach Chaz Donovan said. “We couldn’t have asked for a better way to celebrate our 10 seniors. The entire team stepped up to deliver a commanding win, making it a night to remember.
“A huge thank you to our senior class — Sawyer Anderson, Lukas Ruchti, Philip Du, Reilly Smith, Carter Bokin, Carter Brandon, Josh Rojo, Jonathon Kitsak, Zach Kerns, and Jared Contreras — for your dedication, sacrifice, and the lasting impact you've made on this program.”
Lake City plays at top-seeded Coeur d’Alene on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the first game of a best-of-3 series for the 6A District 1 title.

SANDPOINT — Playing up against the 5A Bulldogs, the 4A Panthers suffered their first loss of the season in the inaugural Popcorn Cup at War Memorial Field.
Huxley Hall scored the game’s only goal in the second half for Sandpoint (11-3-2), which will be the top seed to the 5A Region 1 tournament.
It was only the second goal allowed all year by Cd’A Charter (12-0-1), and the first since Aug. 29.
“We battled tonight,” Charter coach Craig Daigle said. “I am very proud of how our team played. Mattis Macmillan was amazing between the posts and kept us in the game all night. It was a great game to prepare us for districts.”
As for how the Popcorn Cup came to be, Mike Lehosit, the father of Charter junior captain Creighton Lehosit and the owner of Hayden Cinemas and co-owner of Sandpoint Cinemas, spearheaded the idea. A giant popcorn trophy and free movie passes were awarded to Sandpoint for the win. The two teams plan to make the event an annual one.
Coeur d’Alene Charter plays host to St. Maries on Wednesday at The Fields at Real Life in Post Falls.

RATHDRUM — The visiting Bears, who earned the top seed to the upcoming 5A Region 1 tournament, jumped out to a 4-0 halftime lead en route to the 5A Inland Empire League victory over the Hawks at Sunrise Rotary Field.
“They move the ball well, and they can finish,” Lakeland coach Kevin Rogge said of Moscow (9-2-3, 7-0-1 5A IEL).
Karstyn Kiefer scored in the 53rd minute for Lakeland (5-6-3, 2-4-2).
Lakeland will be the fourth seed to regionals, and play host to fifth seed Post Falls (1-10-2, 0-7-1) on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. The winner will play at Moscow on Saturday.
