Focke, a sophomore, shot an even-par 72, then beat fellow Viking Hunter Paquin in a playoff to win the 6A District 1 golf tournament on Sept. 29 at Avondale Golf Club in Hayden Lake. “Ben’s biggest growth from last year to this year is managing the emotion that the sport brings,” Coeur d’Alene boys golf coach Chase Bennett said. “His swing is so consistent. Golf is a game of ups and downs, but with how compact his swing is and how he’s matured, he’s able to manage that.”
