Gerald (Jerry) Kenneth Hobson passed away peacefully Sept. 19, 2025, at Schneidmiller Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on Dec. 9, 1937, in Walla Walla, Wash., Jerry was the son of Kenneth Hobson and Alma Rapp Hobson. After graduating from Burbank High School, he attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago. He began his career repairing televisions and radios before being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1961. Jerry served honorably until his discharge in 1967.
On Sept. 22, 1962, Jerry married Barbara Humrickhouse in Spokane, Wash. They welcomed their first child, Susan, in 1963 in Kennewick. In 1965, the family moved to Twin Falls, Idaho, where Jerry taught electronics at the College of Southern Idaho. There, they welcomed three more children: Grant (1966), Cathy (1969), and David (1972). In 1977, the family relocated to Hayden, Idaho, where Jerry opened J & J Electronics, a business he operated into the early 1990s. He also worked in real estate for several years.
Jerry had a deep and enduring faith in Jesus Christ. He taught Sunday School and encouraged others in their walk with God. In his early years, Jerry enjoyed hunting and fly fishing. He also established a love for golf, which was his most enjoyed hobby for many years after his working career.
He was preceded in death by his mother Alma (Smith), stepfather Aaron Smith, father Kenneth Hobson, and in-laws Ryland and Margaret Humrickhouse. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; children Susan, Grant (Jodi), Cathy (Dave) and David (Beth); as well as his cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his brother, Keith Hobson, and his best friend, Ron.
