Improving Hawk boys get Wrobleski back, fall to Loggers
JOHN HAMILTON | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 7 months, 1 week AGO
Playing the game a little better every day, the Thompson Falls-Plains Blue Hawk boys soccer team dropped a pair of well-played games to Libby last week, falling to the Loggers 3-2 in Libby Tuesday and 3-0 in Plains Thursday in Plains’ homecoming game.
Great news for the Hawks last week was the return of Andrew Wrobleski, who had been out of action since September 9 after injuring a knee in Columbia Falls during a match there.
Making a triumphant return to the lineup, Wrobleski scored both goals for Thompson Falls-Plains, one on a penalty kick, to lead the Hawks in Libby.
“Our boys played tough in this game and even though we lost,” coach Michael Scharfe said, “it sure felt like a victory since everyone played so well, and the game was so close.”
Scharfe had similar emotions following the game with Libby in Plains, his boys played hard to the end in both contests, and he appreciated the effort from his team.
“Notice that all of Libby’s goals were scored in the first half of play,” he said. “We never gave up and continued our strong play in the second half, which kept them from scoring.”
“We were able to get some shots on the goal,” he continued, “but unfortunately, we were not able to get any to go in.”
On the other side of the Hawks, the defensive side, Jacob Howell made several nice saves in goal to help keep both games with Libby close last week.
The Hawk boys have two regular season games remaining, hosting powerful Whitefish Thursday for senior night and playing at Bigfork Friday.
