RATHDRUM — During the regular season, Lakeland senior midfielder Cade Pittman made the most of his time against Post Falls, scoring four goals in two games against the Trojans.

In Tuesday’s 5A District 1 opener, he outdid himself.

Pittman had four goals and an assist for the fourth-seeded Hawks in a 5-1 win over the fifth–seeded Trojans, as Lakeland advanced to a semifinal game on Saturday against top-seeded Sandpoint at Memorial Field.

“Cade’s kind of been streaky this year,” Lakeland coach Nick Haynes said. “We told him he needed to step up, and he always seems to against Post Falls. He’s kind of disappeared in the last few games and he showed up in a big way with four goals and an assist.”

Lakeland (6-8-1) faces Sandpoint (11-3-2) under the lights at War Memorial Field at 6 p.m.

Post Falls finished 2-11.

“We came into the match really focused today,” Haynes said. “Today was the most we’ve been locked in all season. We’ve got 13 seniors, and they were all just locked in before the game. We told Cade you need to shoot the ball, and he did that and got it into the back of the net.”

Saturday’s winners advance to the regional championship match next Tuesday, with the winner to state and the loser moving to a state play-in match against the runner-up from District 3 (Boise area) on Oct. 18 at Lewiston.
