PREP VOLLEYBALL: Title Tuesday

KELLOGG — Freshman Gretah Angle had 12 kills, 13 assists and five aces for Kellogg in a 25-14, 21-25, 25-11, 25-18 win over the Priest River Spartans on Tuesday, clinching a second straight Central Idaho League title for the Wildcats and home-court advantage in the 3A District 1-2 tournament. 

It was the sixth time in the last seven years Kellogg has won or shared the league title.

“It was a fabulous team effort tonight,” said Kellogg coach Hollie Yrjana, in her first season of her second stint as Wildcat coach. “Our tough and consistent serving (only missed three all night), gritty defense and smart offense helped us pull off the win tonight. Priest River came to play tonight and they really made us work for the win.” 

Junior Paige Yrjana had nine kills, 13 digs and four blocks, sophomore Ella Yrjana seven kills and 16 assists, junior Jordyn Stutzke 10 digs, senior Dani Henrikson three blocks for Kellogg (16-0, 7-0 CIL), which travels to St. Maries on Thursday. 

Priest River is 12-2, 4-2. 

Coeur d’Alene d. 

Lewiston 

LEWISTON — Senior Gianna Callari had 20 kills and three blocks as the visiting Vikings rolled to a 25-18, 25-16, 25-8 victory over the Bengals. 

Kaylee Paulson added 11 digs and six kills for Coeur d’Alene (19-3). Hannah Shafer had 14 assists, Bridget Maiani 11 digs, Eva Callari 10 assists, Camryn Farrar five kills, Maren Larson three blocks, Jovie Le two aces. 

“Our passing was really solid tonight, which allowed us to run our offense smoothly,” Coeur d’Alene coach Carly Curtis said. “Our defense also got to a lot of balls we were able to convert. Everyone contributed, and we played a well-rounded game from start to finish.” 

Lewiston is 13-6. 

Coeur d’Alene plays host to Moscow on Thursday. 

Lake City d. 

Lakeland 

COEUR d’ALENE — The host Timberwolves celebrated senior night with a 25-17, 25-21, 25-18 victory over the Hawks in nonleague play. 

Freshman Alaina Freed had five kills and three aces for Lake City (9-13). Camryn Woodman aded five kills, nine digs and three aces, Ella Jeanselme nine kills and 10 digs, Kate Moglia six kills, 18 assists and eight digs. 

“It felt great to carry over our progress gained in Boise,” said Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg, whose team went 3-2 at the Rocky Mountain tournament last weekend in Meridian. “A really fun win for our seniors on their special night. Kindell Day and Jolie Warren on Lakeland kept pressure on us — they are great players. I’m proud of our efficient serving and hustle plays. Excited to see this team keep growing.” 

For Lakeland (11-11), Warren had eight kills and two aces, Day nine assists, Anabel Bowie five blocks, Jaeli Hoffman nine assists and two aces, Chloe Neff 14 digs, Emma Beaty two aces. 

On Thursday, Lakeland travels to Lewiston for a key 5A Inland Empire League match, and Lake City visits Freeman of Rockford, Wash. 

Bonners Ferry d. 

Timberlake 

SPIRIT LAKE — The visiting Badgers earned a share of the Intermountain League title with a 25-16, 25-18, 28-26 victory over the Tigers. 

Timberlake won at Bonners Ferry in the first league match, also in a sweep. 

Tigers coach Lisa Gardom said Timberlake won the tiebreaker by four points, so the Tigers will host the best-of-3 series for the 4A District 1 title starting Oct. 20. 

Amarijana Olivieri had seven kills, 15 digs and four blocks for Timberlake (7-9, 1-1 IML). Everlee Powell had 10 kills and four blocks, Willow Mattson 14 assists, Kaydence Edwards eight assists and six digs, Rilynn Kaiser five blocks. 

Bonners Ferry is 4-15, 1-1. 

Timberlake travels to Chattaroy, Wash., on Thursday to play Riverside. 

St. Maries d. 

Kootenai

HARRISON FLATS — Dimercia Spooner had 15 kills, three digs and two blocks as the visiting Lumberjacks beat the Warriors 25-19, 25-11, 25-10 in nonleague play. 

Taryn Brebner had five aces, five assists and three digs for St. Maries (2-15). Letty Smith had foure kills, Sadie Jones five kills, Brooklyn Scheffelmaier 10 digs, Lyssa Watkins 15 assists and four aces. 

St. Maries plays host to Kellogg on Thursday in their annual "pink out" match for cancer awareness. 

Next up for Kootenai (2-11) is a loser-out match vs. Mullan on Oct. 21 at the 1A District 1 tournament at North Idaho College. 

Lakeside d. 

Wallace 

WALLACE — Senior Tylah Lambert had 10 kills, 11 digs, 24 assists and three aces as the visiting Knights beat the Miners 27-25, 16-25, 25-16, 25-23 at Kirby Krulitz Court to win the Scenic Idaho Conference title, Lakeside's first league title since winning the North Star League in 2013.

Kimberly Pluff added 13 kills, and five digs for Lakeside (12-1, 5-1 SIC). Rayna Schatz had nine kills, five digs and three blocks, Saydee Peone 11 kills and seven digs, Allisue Hendrickx five digs, Ambi Aldrich six kills for the Knights.

"Hats off to my seniors," second-year Lakeside coach Devyn Moore said. "They played one heck of a game again. Rayna played the net like a beast. Swings and digs again on point from Pluff. Tylah everywhere taking swings, running our offense, and playing a huge role in our serve receive. Izzy (Kee) and Alberta (Stensgar) dug some hard-hit balls. Allisue passed well. And Saydee Peone, that girl passed the ball like it was her everyday job, and her aggressive swings coming from the pin are getting stronger and stronger. Ambi finding holes all over tonight as well. We're lighting a fire underneath us, and we’re working hard so no one gets to put it out anytime soon."

Senior Megan Hull had 16 kills and 20 digs, senior Aubrey Birdsell 20 assists, 13 digs and three aces, senior Kylee Phillips seven kills, three aces, one block and 22 digs and senior Olivia Berry four aces and 17 digs for Wallace (11-7, 3-2 SIC), which faces Genesis Prep on Thursday at The Courts at Real Life in Post Falls to conclude the regular season.

CLARK FORK — The Wampus Cats (8-7, 3-3 North Star League) swept the Jaguars (2-11, 0-5) 25-12, 25-13, 25-9.

Genesis Prep plays host to Wallace on Thursday at The Courts at Real Life in Post Falls. 

Coeur du Christ d. 

Mullan 

COEUR d’ALENE — The host Saints, in their second season as a full member of the IHSAA, completed their second straight undefeated run through the North Star League, beating the Tigers 25-11, 25-9, 25-9 at Holy Family Catholic School. 

Kate Clemens had 17 assists and five aces for Coeur du Christ (8-4, 4-0 NSL). Espi Klocko added five aces, Therese Junkin four blocks for the Saints, who play host to Genesis Prep next Monday.

Mullan (2-7, 1-3) and Kootenai will square off in a loser-out match at the 1A District 1 tournament. The winner will play Coeur du Christ in the championship match for a berth to state.
