One dog died in a house fire near Carlin Bay on Thursday afternoon, according to East Side Fire District.

"Although all human residents made it out of the structure safely, the family did lose one of their dogs in the fire," ESFD said in a social media post. "Our hearts go out to them for the loss of their home and their four-legged friend."

The fire was contained to one structure, and the house was a total loss.

Kootenai County Fire and Rescue and Idaho Department of Lands also responded.

An investigation continues.
