Shoshone News-Press | UPDATED 1 month, 4 weeks AGO
Jim Hendrixson, 71, of Osburn, Idaho, beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather and uncle, passed away Sept. 27, 2025, at Shoshone Medical in Kellogg, Idaho. Jim was born April 23, 1954, in Wayland, Mich., to parents Robert James and Berdine (Chapple) Hendrixson. Jim grew up in Wayland, Mich., and graduated from Wayland High School, where he excelled in football, basketball and tennis. He then attended and graduated from Grand Valley State University, where he continued his love of football and tennis. He was a talented and gifted athlete in every sport he pursued. He graduated with a BS degree in Urban and Regional Land Use Planning.
After college graduation, Jim discovered the Pacific Northwest during a monthlong hitchhiking adventure with his good friend, Dave Mack. This led him to various jobs in planning and zoning, including in the cities of Jackson, Wyo., Pasadena, Calif., and Sandpoint, Idaho. He was also a high school sports official for over 14 years. It was through his time officiating that he met his wife, Susan, who was living in Shoshone County. This meeting was the focus of his decision to move to the Silver Valley. For 25 years, he and Susan created a home filled with love, happiness and wonderful memories. His planning and zoning career led him into real estate, and he became an agent and broker at Hendrixson Real Estate in Wallace, Idaho, aka the ”Jimmy Hendrixson Real Estate Experience.” He found his niche in real estate that lasted over 22 years.
Jim’s favorite things included spending time with family, fly fishing and tinkering in the “shop.” The “shop” was the hangout spot, and will continue to be, for family and friends and required a degree just to turn on all his creative lighting configuration. His semi-retirement hobbies included the stock market, keeping up to date on world conspiracy theories, watching every sport that exists, weekly “dates” with Susan to the transfer station and experimenting with freeze-drying and dehydrating foods for our end-of-the-world food supply. Without a doubt, Jim loved the Lord and his faith as a Christian was strong and steadfast.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Susan Hendrixson, of Osburn, Idaho; his daughters, Laurel Hendrixson, Adrienne Hendrixson-Metcalf (Jake); two stepchildren, Jessica (Seth) Patton, and Jake Johnson; three wonderful grandchildren, Miles Hendrixson, and Leyton and Knoxen Patton. Jim came into Jessica’s life as a stepfather when she was 9 years old. It was more than just a title. He took on the role of a father and filled her life with knowledge, love, support and encouragement. His relationship with his son-in-law, Seth, was more than a family connection. It was an unbreakable bond that was cemented by their shared passions, mutual respect and love. To his grandsons, Leyton (Chum A) and Knoxen (Chum B), he will forever be known as “papa.”
He is also survived by his sister, Jan Hendrixson Allman, of Grand Rapids, Mich., a brother, Jack Hendrixson, of Temple, N.H., and many nieces and nephews who adored him dearly. In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his brother, Jeff, and his sister, Joyce Bellows.
His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends and many more whose lives were touched by him. Although Jim’s physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May his memory be a blessing.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be determined and held at a future date. He will be buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Kellogg, Idaho.
