LOCAL WATCH: Bayer fires in 15 birdies, wins Sun Mountain Intercollegiate Invitational

A 2024 graduate of Bonners Ferry High, Braylyn, playing as an independent, fired in a 2-under-par total gross 214 (73-72-69), a new 54-hole career-best, across three rounds and beat out 40 other golfers to capture medalist honors at the Sun Mountain Intercollegiate Invitational, which was hosted by the University of Montana on Monday and Tuesday at The Ranch Club in Missoula. The former Lady Badger state champion carded 25 pars and 15 birdies — six of which came during her career-best 3-under par 69 third round that propelled her from tied for fourth to first place — for the Lady Wildcats, which beat out five other teams to close out their fall season with their second tournament win. For her efforts, Bayer was named the Big Sky Conference Golfer of the Week, announced Wednesday by the league office. Weber State will return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 10 and Wednesday, Feb. 11 at the Mountain Classic Match Play tournament set to be held at the The Classic Club in Palm Springs, Calif.
