Both Libby soccer teams ran into a determined pair of Columbia Falls squads Saturday, as the Wildcats and Wildkats celebrated Senior Night.
The Lady Loggers battled hard but couldn’t slow down a red-hot Columbia Falls attack, falling 7-0 to the Wildkats, who improved to 10-0-1 and clinched the Northwest A conference title.
The Wildkats outshot the Lady Loggers 30-1 and held a 14-0 advantage in corner kicks. Libby goalkeeper Sarah Kosters made 19 saves under pressure.
In the boys’ matchup, Libby stayed within reach through the first half before the Wildcats exploded after the break for a 5-0 victory.
Libby goalkeeper JJ Fosgate turned away 16 shots as Columbia Falls peppered the net with 21 attempts.
Tuesday, Libby hosted Bigfork for Senior Night.
For the girls, Zoe Warner was honored. She was the lone senior on the team. For the boys, Kale Hall, Nolan Morris, Colby Iliff and Sylis Moore were recognized.
In the girls game, Bigfork won 5-1. Zoey Bernall scored for Libby about six minutes into the game for a 1-0 lead. The game was tied at halftime, 1-1, before the Valkries scored four second-half goals.
In the boys game, Jonathan Cano helped set up Zander Gassman's goal late in the first half for a 1-0 lead. Bigfork scored a few minutes to make it 1-1 at the half. A Vikings goal five minutes into the second half was enough for the win for the visitors.
The boys swept Thompson Falls-Plains last week by 3-2 and 3-0 scores. The Loggers are 3-6 in Class A North, fourth place, and 3-8 overall.
For the girls, they dropped both games to Thompson Falls-Plains last week. They are 1-8 in Class A North, fifth place, and 2-9 overall.
Both teans finish the regular season Saturday at Browning.
