PREP VOLLEYBALL: Priest River defeats Orofino in straight sets
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 2 months, 3 weeks AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | October 10, 2025 5:05 PM
Priest River 3, Orofino 0
OROFINO — Sophomore McKinley Burgess-Duquette put together a team-high 10 kills, senior Jayda Storro set up a team-high 26 assists and the Lady Spartans swept the Maniacs (25-14, 25-15, 25-23) for a 3A Central Idaho League win Friday afternoon at Orofino High.
Offensively, junior Raygn Turner contributed six kills, junior Jasmine Stark and senior Aleigha Jensen had four kills each, and Turner served up a team-high three aces for Priest River, which used a 7-2 start to win the first set, a 10-3 run to capture the second set, and led from start to finish in their third set victory.
On defense, junior Callie Stanger registered a team-high six kills and Burgess-Duquette, Jensen and junior Rylee Dixon all had one block apiece.
"Great to be on the road and win in three," Priest River High head coach Katlyn Ward said. "We had a great time. We lost a bit of momentum in set three, but we had the pedal to the metal the entire time."
Priest River (13-2) will make a quick turnaround as they're set to face Grangeville this morning for their Central Idaho League and regular season finale.
