Better Together Animal Alliance in Ponderay is providing urgent support to nearly 250 cats in four separate cases of overpopulation.

Two of the situations involve properties where the homeowners are deceased, resulting in domesticated cats living without food or water. Working closely with community members involved, BTAA is supplying resources including food, vaccines and spay/neuter services to improve the lives of dozens of cats and kittens, a press release said.

“We are calling on our community to help us provide compassionate care to these cats and kittens during this urgent situation,” said Mandy Evans, executive director of BTAA. “By partnering with caregivers, we can ensure these cats don’t go hungry, provide them with spay and neuter services to prevent continued overpopulation and vaccinate each animal to protect them at this vulnerable time.”

The felines came from two locations in Careywood, 13 cats and 21 cats; one in Priest River; 100 cats, and one in Sagle, 100 cats.

Donations of adult cat food are urgently needed to keep the cats healthy while long-term care plans are put in place. Monetary donations are needed to help cover the cost of vaccines, veterinary care and spay/neuter surgeries.

How to Help

• Donate dry adult cat food: Drop off unopened bags of cat food at BTAA, 870 Kootenai Cutoff Road, Ponderay. Or donate through Walmart, North 40, Petco or the BTAA Chewy Wishlist.

• Make a monetary contribution: Visit https://www.mightycause.com/story/k1h8lf or call 208-265-7297, ext 100 to give directly toward the care of these cats.

• Spread the word: Share this message and help rally community support for these cats and their caregivers.

• Adopt a cat: Adopting a cat helps free up shelter space so BTAA can intake vulnerable cats and find them new homes.

“Every bag of food, every dollar, every share makes a difference,” Evans said.
