PREP FOOTBALL: Bonners Ferry uses fast start to take care of Moscow

I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | October 11, 2025 11:15 AM

BONNERS FERRY — In arguably their biggest game of the season thus far, Bonners Ferry took care of business.

Junior quarterback Alex Stolley was 15-for-19 passing for 135 yards and two touchdowns, senior Keenan Maas rushed 29 times for 202 yards and two touchdowns, and senior Conrad Hiatt rattled off three total touchdowns and 147 total yards as the Badgers scored early and often in a senior night win over the Bears — their first 4A Intermountain League victory over Moscow since the Bears joined the league in 2024 — on Friday night in front of an electric home crowd at Bonners Ferry High.

Maas, who now has three games of 200-plus yards rushing on the season, found the endzone for his 23rd career touchdown on an 83-yard run during the game's opening drive. On the Badgers' next possession, Hiatt, who caught a career-high nine passes for 63 receiving yards and rushed 16 times for 84 yards, fought tooth and nail as he plunged his way across the goal line for a 3-yard score and 14-0 Bonners Ferry advantage.

After Moscow responded with a score of their own, junior Cooper Higgins, on a reverse pass, found himself wide open along the far-side sideline and Stolley delivered a dime for a 57-yard receiving touchdown and the 21-6 lead. The Badgers scored again before the halftime whistle sounded when Stolley hit Hiatt for a 2-yard receiving touchdown as Bonners Ferry took a 21-point lead into the locker room.

"The boys just channeled their energy — they kept their wits about them," Bonners Ferry High head coach Danny Swift said of the fast start. "They've been really focusing on when to reach that high and have done a great job of peaking at the right times. That was a big touchdown on the reverse pass by Alex (Stolley) that really sparked us when things were starting to slow down. He's been incredibly efficient."

In the second half, it was much of the same as Hiatt used a 7-yard rushing touchdown, his eighth score of the season, to extend the Badger lead to 34-12 midway through the third quarter. Maas, on a direct snap, then carried the ball three yards for his 18th touchdown of the season as Bonners Ferry took a 41-12 lead with a little over seven minutes to go in regulation before closing things out.

The Badger defense stood strong the entire game.

Junior Jake Solt recorded a team-high 11 tackles while Hiatt, in addition to his offensive explosion, had 10 tackles of his own. Senior Daric Vincent had six tackles and Higgins added four and all of the aforementioned had a tackle for a loss in the winning effort. Hiatt also caused a fumble, which junior Risten Allred recovered.

"After the first drive of the night, it really lit a fire under our defense," coach Swift noted. "Our coaches put together a great gameplan and the boys executed it well for the most part. In the first half, we had them guessing a lot and we're able to take advantage of it. Jake Solt had probably his best game of the season on the defensive line and our secondary played well."

Bonners Ferry High seniors Hiatt, Maas, Vincent, Spiro Petras, Ronin Hansen, Sulay Abubakari, Giovanni Faraoni, Rocky Monroe, Kai Aitken, Oscar Torres-Tedford and James Morgen were all honored on the night for their contributions over the years.

"Just great humans," coach Danny Swift said of his 11 seniors. "To watch these young men grow into mature leaders — leaders in the classroom, off the field, on the field, in their elementary schools when they do Badger Buddy time — they're true mentors. Everybody knows how good they are at football, and I'm not surprised they've had this success. They've been able to show their community and North Idaho what they've been working for. I couldn't be more proud of them, just a class act all-around."

Bonners Ferry (5-2), which has won five of their last six contests, will look to extend their winning streak to four games when they head to winless Orofino for their non-league finale Friday.
