BONNERS FERRY— Compared to the thrashing the Badgers delivered against Kellogg two weeks ago, Senior Night was a much tougher game. However, Bonners Ferry had the upper hand throughout to end the home season undefeated.

The Badgers were up 28-6 at the end of the first half, before giving up two late touchdowns to Moscow, making the score look closer than the game actually was.

Senior Conrad Hiatt had a terrific offensive performance, with 84 yards rushing, 63 yards receiving and three total touchdowns. Senior Keenan Maas ran 29 times for 202 yards, including an 83-yard touchdown run during the game’s first drive to set the tone for the Badgers. Alex Stolley, Bonners Ferry’s junior quarterback, looks increasingly assured as he threw for 135 yards and two touchdowns with a 79% completion percentage.

At 14-6 Badgers with time ticking down in the second quarter and the game in the balance, Bonners Ferry ran a flea flicker, which resulted in a well-worked 57-yard touchdown pass to junior Cooper Higgins.

“We like to keep some things held back,” Coach Danny Swift said. “Alex made a great play, Keenan made a great pitch, (the) O-Line held and Cooper made a great catch.”

Bonners Ferry’s defense was spectacular, especially in the first half where they only allowed six points and stopped a two-point conversion attempt. Juniors Jake Solt and Cooper Higgins had 11 and 10 tackles respectively, with each having a tackle for a loss. Seniors Daric Vincent and Hiatt also had one TFL each and junior Risten Allred recovered a fumble to cap off an impressive defensive display.

However, it was not a perfect game from Bonners Ferry, as they committed several penalties and gave up a fumble late in the fourth quarter.

Coach Swift stressed the need for improvements as the season gets closer to its conclusion.

“(The) second half could have definitely been better,” Swift said. “We’ve got to execute all the way and we’ve just got to play football. (There’s) just some little things to work on and we’ll just keep going, one day at a time.”

Bonners Ferry is currently on a three-game winning streak and is 5-2 overall. Moscow was their first conference game of the season.

They will travel to play Orofino on Oct. 17 at 7:00 p.m. before facing Timberlake away at the same time to finish the regular season.
