A 26-year-old Libby woman was ordered to pay back nearly $6,000 to her parents during a recent sentencing hearing.

Selena Shriner appeared Oct. 6 in Lincoln County District Court where she received a three-year deferred sentence. Shriner, who pleaded guilty to felony theft, was also ordered by District Judge Matt Cuffe to pay back $5,680. Shriner received credit for serving nine days in the county jail.

Shriner’s attorney, Maury Solomon requested a waiver of the $800 public defender fee. Deputy county attorney Lauren O’Neill didn’t argue Solomon’s request and Cuffe granted it.

Shriner was charged after her parents noticed multiple withdrawals from the Libby branch of Glacier Bank. According to police reports, Libby police responded to a report on May 15 about the theft.

The couple showed police bank statements that showed multiple withdrawals at the bank in the late hours of the night, withdrawals that the couple had not made. The couple suspected their daughter, Shriner, who had been living with them until recently.

According to court documents, the couple stated that Shriner did not have permission to access their account or withdraw money. Police referenced the withdrawal times using video footage from Glacier Bank, and both the police and the couple were able to confirm that it was Shriner making the withdrawals.

Police were able to locate Shriner’s car at Cabinet Peaks Medical Center. After speaking with Shriner, she admitted that she had taken money from her parents, stating that she was going through a difficult time and needed an extra month. She said it had been going on for a while.

Shriner faced fines of up to $10,000 or a maximum of up to 10 years in prison.
