COEUR d’ALENE — Despite missing two starters due to illness, the Coeur du Christ Saints swept the Genesis Prep Jaguars 25-13, 25-16, 25-12 in nonleague play Monday night at Holy Family Catholic School.
Senior Ava Fiore had 12 assists for Coeur du Christ (9-4), which has won five straight matches. Therese Junkin added nine digs, Espi Klocko six aces for the Saints, who were without senior Kate Clemens and junior Savannah Sloan.
“I was very happy with the other girls that stepped up and filled in anywhere we needed them. It showed a lot of versatility,” Coeur du Christ coach Natalie Kiefer said. “Particularly, Ava and Therese set for us and did a great job getting into a groove. Sadie Harrington also got a lot of playing time in the middle and started to show some real confidence and growth by the end of the match.”
Genesis Prep (2-13), the fourth seed, will play at top-seeded Lakeside on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the first round of the 2A District 1 tournament.
Coeur du Christ wraps up the regular season on Thursday at home vs. Chesterton Academy of Notre Dame, a Spokane school, at 6 p.m. at Holy Family.
