Zelek Lee Best

Zelek Lee Best was born Aug. 30, 1989 in Seoul, South Korea and raised by Terry and Marie Best in Libby Montana.

His parents and four sisters were thrilled with the opportunity to bring him into their family through adoption and he was the center of their world from the start. As a child, he was naughty, funny and wildly imaginative - doted on by all who knew him.

He loved hyper-realistic play and would not stand for toy versions of anything. From a fully kitted-out cowboy or sheriff with real handcuffs, to a shopkeeper or a secret agent, he built magical fantasy worlds and drew others in. He loved doing work and was an early entrepreneur - from stopping traffic to sell stools or hatching and selling chicks, to shelving movies at the truck stop in exchange for rentals and candy.

This work ethic carried through into his adult life. Zelek rose to leadership in every job he held - taking excellence very seriously, facing challenges with confidence and generally making himself indispensable.

He was a fiercely private but also a charming and playful person. In the past seven years he battled with kidney disease, but stayed positive in the face of setbacks and struggles. While he was disappointed to leave his job and move home to Libby into 2022, he made the best of a tough situation and brought his big attitude along.

He loved to tease and prank those he loved and also took joy in giving generous and thoughtful gifts. He created so much joy and connection, building friendships and making mischief at Fusions Salon with his sisters and bonus sisters.

Zelek passed away on Friday, Oct. 3, 2025 with family at his side. He is survived by his parents, siblings and many nephews and nieces, as well as well as ‘bonus’ chosen family whose lives he touched. He will be deeply missed by so many.

In lieu of a formal service, we encourage anyone who loved Zelek to get together with mutual loved ones and do something you would have done with him or something he would have enjoyed.

Go shooting, eat good food, drink good coffee and think of him.

For those who wish to celebrate his life, instead of flowers or gifts we encourage you to donate in his memory to your local animal shelter. He loved animals, especially his precious rescue dog, Nala and kitty, Jasmine.

You are also welcome to share a memory or funny story about Zelek- condolences can be sent to [email protected] or shared on his Facebook page.
