COLLEGE NOTEBOOK: Lamanna breaks 40-year-old school record, runs fastest time in NWAC at LC State Invitational

MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 2 months, 2 weeks AGO
by MAX OSWALD
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | October 15, 2025 3:45 PM

Brayden Lamanna, Treasure Valley CC Cross Country

A 2025 graduate of Priest River High, Brayden ran to a new personal best 8,000-meter time of 24 minutes, 51 seconds (4:59 per mile) to finish 22nd out of 96 runners at the LC State Invitational, which featured NCAA Division I teams such as Montana, Idaho and Gonzaga, as well as the College of Idaho, 2024 NAIA National Champions, this past Saturday at the Lewiston Orchards. The former Central Idaho League district champion and Spartan standout beat out 21 current Division I runners and was the No. 3 runner amongst non-Division I competitors. His new school record time is currently ranked No. 1 out of all runners in the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC).

"Breaking a school record from the '80s is always something special," Treasure Valley CC head coach Ryan Jaggi, who formerly coached track & field at Grangeville High, said in an article by the college's sports information department. "Brayden has worked his tail off all summer to come in and make an impact for our team and he's done just that. For a freshman to come in and run sub-25 in the 8k is an impressive feat, but to do it week in and out and shatter a school record in the process is truly exciting for what is to come from this young man."
