Martin Scorsese’s 1976 neo-noir classic film, “Taxi Driver,” will be shown Oct. 28 at the Northwest Montana History Museum.
“Taxi Driver” follows mentally unstable Vietnam War veteran, Travis Bickle (Robert De Niro), who lives alone in a small New York City apartment and takes a job as a nighttime taxi driver to fill his sleepless nights. As his mental health deteriorates, he becomes obsessed with societal decay and depravity and cleaning up the “filth” and “scum” he finds throughout the city.
Things take a sharp turn when he meets Betsy (Cybill Shepherd), a campaign worker. He then decides that his mission to save the world involves assassinating a presidential candidate and rescuing Iris (Jodie Foster) from child prostitution and pimp, Sport (Harvey Keitel). His alienation and isolation deepen as he descends into vigilantism.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the film starts at 7 p.m. in the Swanberg Classroom. Host and educator Jacob Thomas will provide prescreening remarks. The museum is located at 124 Second Ave. E., Kalispell.
Admission and popcorn are free. Soda, water, beer and wine available for purchase. Seating is provided, but guests are welcome to bring their own cushions or chairs.
