Alpine Theatre Project’s fall youth musical, “Madagascar, a Musical Adventure JR,” brings more than 130 talented young performers from across the Flathead Valley to the Whitefish Performing Arts Center for four performances, Oct. 17–19.

Based on the hit DreamWorks animated film, “Madagascar JR,” follows Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, Gloria the Hippo, and a pack of hilarious penguins as they escape from New York’s Central Park Zoo and embark on a wild journey to the island of Madagascar. Bursting with high-energy music, comedy, and vibrant choreography, this production celebrates friendship, freedom and the joy of performing together.

“This show is pure joy,” said Tracy McDowell, ATP’s artistic director. “Our students are fearless, funny and full of talent. They bring incredible heart and professionalism to the stage.”

Directed by Broadway veteran McDowell with music direction by industry professional Ross Bridgeman, “Madagascar JR” gives young performers the chance to train and perform at a professional level while building confidence, teamwork and creativity.

Participants come from across the Flathead Valley.

ATP’s “Madagascar JR” features two full casts. The "Alex Cast" performs Friday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m., and the “Marty Cast” performs Saturday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 19 at 3 p.m.  Tickets are $22 for adults and $10 for students, available now at atpwhitefish.org/shows.
