NAPLES — Volunteers and members of the Sandpoint Trailblazers cross country mountain biking team, in conjunction with local non-profit 9B Trails, participated in a trail building project this past Saturday, Sept. 27 at The Enchanted Forest trail site in Boundary County.

“We have amazing trail systems in our region and a lot of hard work has gone into creating them," Sandpoint Trailblazers coach Frank Roberts said. "It is important for our athletes to contribute to the trail systems they ride on. Having these trails is what has allowed our athletes to grow and build their skills.”

Sandpoint High sophomore Everett Raiha was one member of the team who volunteered on the trail building effort.

“One of my favorite tools to use are loppers,” Raiha said of the shears, used for pruning twigs and small branches. “Trail building is super fun, and it’s really rewarding when you get to ride the trails you helped build. It is an amazing experience to have with friends.”

The Sandpoint Trailblazers, which competed in their first season in 2021, provide an opportunity for local athletes from fifth to 12th grades — of all skill levels — to participate in both fall and spring cross country mountain biking leagues.
