Daily Inter-Lake | UPDATED 2 months, 1 week AGO
HAMILTON — If you have two Delaneys finish in the top three, you’re bound to win a cross country meet.
That was the case for the Polson girls, who saw Morgan Delaney take first and her freshman sister Quinn come in third at the Western A Classic Friday at the Hamilton Golf Course.
Morgan Delaney’s time was 18 minutes, 50.66 seconds; she won last year’s State A meet as a sophomore in 18:35.31. Libby sophomore Capri Farmer was second at 19:21.31, and Quinn Delaney followed at 19:28.10.
The Lady Pirates, who also had sophomore Kimora Scott run a season-best 20:11.54 for fifth and eighth-grader Taryn Cochran finish 16th, won the meet with 75 points.
Columbia Falls, with Hazel Alexander, Ashley Anderes, Findley Dezzani and Noell Svennungsen providing a 9-14-17-19 finish, was next at 93.
Hamilton was third at 101.
On the boys side Corvallis and Browning, who finished 2-3 at last year’s State A meet, went 1-2 on Friday with Columbia Falls third.
Taylor Doleac of Hamilton won in 16:21.67. Browning’s River Racine (16:44.80) and Keon Calf Robe (17:02.65) finished second and fourth; in between was Polson’s David DiGiallonardo (16:48.45).
Columbia Falls’ top finisher was River Blazejewski in sixth; Libby’s Cody Watson was seventh. The Wildcats also had Aiyers Ppowell and Mason Collander in the top 17.
The best finisher for Corvallis was senior Eider Reed, who ran a PR of 17:21.95, but he led a 8-9-11-14-15 Blue Devil finish.
The next action for these teams is the State Cross Country Meet, next Saturday at the UM Golf Course in Missoula. The Kats were second at last year’s State A portion of the meet.
