PREP VOLLEYBALL: Sandpoint swept by Lewiston in regular season finale

I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | October 17, 2025 3:30 PM

Lewiston 3, Sandpoint 0

LEWISTON — Senior Belen Gonzales produced a team-high nine kills, served up a team-high three aces and tied for a team-high 13 digs as the Lady Bulldogs were defeated in straight sets by the Lady Bengals (25-16, 25-16, 25-21) in a 5A Inland Empire League match held Thursday night at Lewiston High.

Sophomore Breecyn Morton contributed an ace of her own while sophomore Carlee Klippel, senior Hazel Pierce and freshman Ali Gunter all recorded three kills each on the night. Freshman Averi Mire recorded a team-high 14 assists, Morton five assists in what was Sandpoint's league and regular season finale.

Defensively, Klippel tallied two total blocks — one solo and one assisted — while Pierce, Gunter and senior Alex Appl chipped in one block apiece. Senior Gretta Beck registered 13 digs, Mire six digs and Morton and freshman Abigail Williams four digs for the Lady Bulldogs.

Lewiston clinched the league title with the victory and the No. 1 seed for the 5A District 1-2 playoffs. They'll host No. 4 Moscow for a 5A District 1-2 loser-out game on Saturday at 6 p.m.

No. 3 Sandpoint (7-10) will travel to No. 2 Lakeland (13-12) for a 5A District 1-2 loser-out game Saturday at 6 p.m. The winner will advance to a best-of-three district tournament championship series.
