A Troy woman is locked up and accused of stabbing her husband during a recent altercation.
Mikealla L. Newton, 28, is facing one felony count of assault with a weapon and one misdemeanor count of partner or family member assault, second offense, following an incident late on the evening of Sunday, Oct. 13.
She is lodged in the Lincoln County Detention Center. Newton is scheduled to appear in Justice Court at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22.
In Troy police officer Layton Artigo’s probable cause statement, he was called to a home on East Missoula following a report by another person who said the alleged victim sent him a video of himself being assaulted by Newton with a knife.
When officer Artigo arrived at the home, he saw a large amount of blood on the front step and the victim had a large cut on his left hand, which was still bleeding. The officer wrote that he could see Newton striking her husband with a knife while he screamed, pleading for her to stop.
Officer Artigo said the victim was initially uncooperative, but he was able to provide first aid to the man. Artigo said the cut on the man’s left hand matched what he saw in the video.
He also reported the couple had a child together and that Newton was convicted of partner or family member assault in 2024 in Lincoln County Justice Court.
According to the affidavit in the 2024 case, Newton served five days in the county jail last fall after pleading guilty on Justice Court. Authorities said she and the victim were in a fight. He has bruises on his face and cuts on his shoulder and back.
Newton had scrapes on her legs and her knuckles were red and had cuts on her knuckles, consistent with striking someone with a closed fist.
The victim produced video of at least two unprovoked attacks on himself by Newton.
