East Hope Tax Override Levy

Residents of East Hope will be voting on a permanent override tax levy for street maintenance. The levy would allow the city to raise its tax levy limit, allowing it to collect more property tax revenue.  

The city says that it has applied for and successfully received numerous grants to improve the streets, like a $30,000 grant to replace the signs and signposts in the city but said that those are not long-term solutions. Funds raised from the increase would only be used for street maintenance, like replacing the city’s snowplow truck or repaving streets like Big Hill or Wellington Place, according to the city. 

Based on current market value, the estimated average impact of the levy passing is an additional $20.89 per $100,000 taxable assessed value, according to the city. This levy needs a two-thirds majority to pass. 

The city will be holding a town hall meeting to answer questions about the levy on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. at the East Hope City Hall.
