The Plummer-Worley Joint School District will participate in the national Lights On Afterschool initiative from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday to call attention to the importance of after-school programs for America's children, families and communities.
This year's event will be geared toward STEM activities with a Halloween flair in a carnival setting. The school district has partnered with the Coeur d'Alene Tribe Early Childhood Learning Center, the Plummer Public Library and Tribal Solid Waste Advisory Network.
The free event will include dinner, crafts and games in the Lakeside Elementary School gym at 1345 E St., Plummer.
Contact Success Center Director Rachel LaCroix 208-582-2943 for details or to host a booth.
According to afterschoolalliance.org, 7.6 million children are alone and unsupervised after school in America today. Afterschool programs keep kids safe, help working families and inspire learning. They provide opportunities to help young people develop into successful adults.

"The first time we would have utilized CDAIDE was when we were closed for the move," Garnet Cafe manager Freya Von Till said Thursday. "The move was last minute and pretty unexpected."
