Chester Duane Christiansen

Chester Duane Christiansen passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 28, 2025, in Butte in the comfort of and company of his AWARE family.

He was born Tuesday, Oct. 21, 1952 in Libby, Montana to Chester D. and Mary Ellen (Dyer) Christiansen.

Chester lived in several Montana communities but finally settled into the AWARE family in Butte where he was a highly functioning member of their work force. He loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and playing golf as well as bowling for the AWARE Vipers. He also enjoyed taking long walks with his two dogs, Licorice and Bella. 

He had a robust zest for life and lived life to a greater extent on his own terms. He enjoyed singing in the church choir when he lived in Libby and enjoyed many different kinds of music.

He is survived by his sister Alyce Anderson of Libby, Montana, his brother and sister-in-law, David and Milli Christiansen of Missoula, nieces, Shannon and Ashley and nephew Neil. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Carole Christiansen.

Cremation has taken place in Butte. Memorial services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21 (his 73rd birthday) in Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home in Butte with Pastor Sarah Schilcher officiating. A reception will follow in Wayrynen-Richards Community Center. 

Services in Libby will take place at a later date and his ashes will be scattered by the golf course, the Kootenai River and out in the woods near Libby, where he spent many hours hunting and fishing. 

He will be lovingly missed by his family and many friends.
