The Libby Loggers volleyball team picked up its second win of the season Thursday evening in a spirited match against visiting Browning.
Libby won in three sets, 25-19, 26-24, 25-18. Each set featured lengthy point runs and rallies that kept fans from both sides on the edge of their seats in the Pink Game that helped raise money and awareness for breast cancer awareness and research.
In the first set, the Loggers owned leads of 4-1 and 14-9 before the Lady Indians rallied to take a 17-16 lead. But after a sideout tied the match at 17-17, Augie Bailey took the serve and scored six straight points as Libby took control of the 23-17. Bailey had three aces in the run, including one following a Browning timeout.
In the second set, the Lady Indians led 6-2 before the Loggers rallied for a 10-10 tie. But Browning scored the next six points for a 16-10 lead.
After an off-target serve gave the ball back to Libby, Tessa Purdy had the serve and scored eight straight for a 19-16 lead. Purdy had three aces in the span.
Things remained close until Libby scored four straight points with an ace by Sidnie Thompson to build the lead to five points, 23-18. But Browning rallied again to knot the score at 24-24.
Libby head coach Angie Houston called timeout and got things straightened out as the hosts scored the last two points for a 26-24 win.
In the third set, Libby led 2-0 before Browning came back and led by as many as six points, 11-5. That prompted a Libby timeout and the Loggers responded with a three-point run to cut the deficit in half. But Browning still held a four-point lead, 16-12, before Libby used a 7-1 run to lead, 19-17.
Jillian Stewart had an ace to help cut the lead to two points, 16-14. When Libby built the lead to 20-17, Browning called timeout. But the Loggers scored two straight as Bella Meyer’s ace made it 22-17.
Rylee Delmas closed out the win serving the last three points, including an ace.
The Libby freshman and junior varsity teams also won.
The Loggers return to action Thursday, hosting Polson for Senior Night. Seniors on the cross country and golf teams will also be honored. Libby will finish its season on the road Saturday at Ronan.
