PREP VOLLEYBALL: Wildcats sweep, on to state 3A tourney

KELLOGG — A great season so far, with bigger dreams next week.
Senior Dani Henrikson had 10 kills and four blocks and freshman Gretah Angle had nine kills, 18 digs and five blocks for the top-seeded Kellogg Wildcats in a 25-12, 25-23, 25-13 sweep of the second-seeded Priest River Spartans in the 3A District 1-2 championship match Thursday at Andrews Gymnasium.
The Wildcats advance to the state 3A tournament starting next Thursday at the Mountain America Center in Idaho Falls.
Junior Paige Yrjana had seven kills and 20 digs, sophomore Ella Yrjana 21 assists and 16 digs and junior Jordyn Stutzke 19 digs for Kellogg (24-1), which won its second district title in three seasons.
“It was a great night to be a Wildcat,” said Kellogg coach Hollie Yrjana, in her first year in her second stint as coach. “We were ready to win and played as a team tonight. Our team played great defense, never letting up and performed a fast-tempo offense. We are ready to see what these girls can do.”
Priest River (15-3) will host third-seeded Grangeville tonight in the district second-place match at 6 p.m. Grangeville beat Orofino (9-11) 3-1 in a loser-out match in Kellogg.
Tonight's winner also advances to state.

Lewiston
LEWISTON — The Bears, seeded fourth in the 5A Region 1 tournament, eliminated the top-seeded Bengals with a 25-19, 25-27, 25-22, 25-21 victory in the second-place match at Lewiston High.
Moscow (15-14) will face either Century or Pocatello in a state play-in match on Saturday at Payette High at noon PDT.
Lewiston finished 16-9.
