STATE HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER TOURNAMENTS: Charter boys shut down Marsh Valley in 4A opener

MERIDIAN — Senior Mattis Macmillan stopped four shots on goal for the top-seeded Coeur d’Alene Charter Panthers in a 3-0 win over the eighth-seeded Marsh Valley Eagles of Armio in the opening round of the state 4A soccer tournament at Owyhee High on Thursday. 

Coeur d’Alene Charter (15-1-1) faces fourth-seeded Sun Valley Community School (16-2-3) in a semifinal match today at noon PDT at Owyhee High.

Junior midfielder Pietro Attolini, junior midfielder Anthony Haler and senior midfielder Lucas Witherwax had goals for Coeur d’Alene Charter, which finished second at state last year at The Fields at Real Life in Post Falls. 

Marsh Valley (11-6-3) faces fifth-seeded Teton (12-2-3), which lost 3-2 to Sun Valley Community School, today in a loser-out match.

MERIDIAN — The Panthers, seeded seventh, fell to the second-seeded Bulldogs in an opening round match at Meridian High. 

Coeur d'Alene Charter had goals from senior forward Reagan Meine and senior forward Sofia Peppin, with junior midfielder Sierra Sheppard added an assist. 

Kimberly sophomore forward Hannah Fisher had two goals. 

Coeur d’Alene Charter (12-2-1) faces sixth-seeded American Falls (13-5-0) in a loser-out match today at 10 a.m. at Meridian High. 

Kimberly (19-2-0) faces third-seeded Marsh Valley (17-4-1) in the semifinals.

MERIDIAN — The eighth-seeded Tigers fell to the top-seeded and defending champion Diggers (16-0-0) of Sugar City in an opening round match at Meridian High. 

Timberlake (9-10-0) will face fourth-seeded Sun Valley Community School (15-5-0) in a loser-out game today at 8 a.m. PDT. Sun Valley lost 2-0 to fifth-seeded Fruitland (15-2-1) in its opener.
