Glacier soccer overcomes pair of red cards to defeat Billings Senior

Down a pair of players, but up on the scoreboard.
Nash Lisowski scored in the first minute of overtime and a nine-man Glacier Wolfpack team defeated Billings Senior 1-0 in a State AA boys soccer quarterfinal Friday at Legends Stadium.
“We went through a lot of adversity and with nine men it wouldn’t be ideal for us to win a game, but it’s not what matters with our team,” Lisowski said. “We will always try our hardest and if one of us goes down we will come back and cover for them.”
Lisowski capitalized on a ball off a defender about 10 yards from the goal and placed it past Senior keeper Jack Switzer.
“That is probably the best I have ever felt,” Lisowski said. “Racing over to the student section, it’s what I dream of. I didn’t think I would ever be able to experience something like that.”
The Glacier backline took care of the rest, headlined by a great performance in goal from Silas Young to keep the clean sheet. The Broncs put seven shots on frame and Young kept out all of them.
“Our team is very well put together, they do their job and I just try and do mine,” Young said. “It was just really good, we played amazing today.”
Brecken Evenson picked up Glacier’s first red card in the 53rd minute after being issued his second yellow for a tackle around midfield. Tayton Hardman was sent off in the 96th minute with a straight red for a bad foul.
After the match, four Senior players were issued red cards for dissent to the official.
The match featured 25 fouls; 15 against the Wolfpack and 10 against Senior.
The Wolfpack had a great chance to take the lead in the first half as a free kick from midfield by Hardman that forced a Switzer save. The ensuing corner saw Lisowski head the ball just over the crossbar.
The best chance for Senior came in the 60th minute as Koby Sandau forced a save out of Young from 10 yards out; the rebound was cleared for a corner. The ensuing corner saw another shot come in from the top of the box, saved again by Young. A foul on the rebound ended the threat.
Despite a two-man advantage, the Broncs failed to put a shot on goal.
With the win, Glacier advances to the semifinals. The Wolfpack will play the winner of Saturday’s Missoula Sentinel-Gallatin matchup on Tuesday, at a site and time to be determined.

Missoula Hellgate 1, Billings West 0
MISSOULA — The best description of Miles Shefloe's game-winning goal for Missoula Hellgate Friday night came from the coach of the opposing team.
"Soccer is a funny game, made up of moments of mistakes or moments of brilliance," Billings West skipper Christopher Fannon said. "Tonight was a moment of brilliance.
"Their guy just hit a screamer world-class goal to decide the game."
Shefloe's shot came from 30 yards away, breaking a scoreless tie in the 59th minute. The 1-0 lead held up as the Knights won for the 10th time in a row and advanced to Tuesday's State AA semifinal round, where they will host the winner of Saturday's Bozeman-Helena Capital match.
Neither team could get much done on the offensive end in the first half. In fact, neither goalkeeper appeared to be in serious jeopardy until Shefloe booted his laser in the upper right corner of the goal.
