I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | October 25, 2025 4:45 PM

SPIRIT LAKE — Bonners Ferry was not messing around with a bid directly to the 4A State Championship playoffs and a league title on the line.

Senior Keenan Maas scored three touchdowns and rushed 16 times for a team-high 209 yards, his fourth 200-plus yard effort of the season, senior Conrad Hiatt recorded three touchdowns of his own and surpassed 1,000 career rushing yards with his season-high 148 yards on just four attempts, and the Badgers secured the 4A Intermountain League title with a 57-point win over the Tigers on Friday night.

Hiatt started off the scoring with an 8-yard touchdown run and shortly after, recorded his first career punt return for a 68-yard score as Bonners Ferry got off to quick 14-0 start. Maas, who is nearing 2,500 career rushing yards and is leading the state in rushing yards per game, then scored on a 1-yard run via direct snap to push the lead to 21 points.

Near the end of the first frame, senior Sulay Abubakari juggled a pass but maintained his composure for a 30-yard receiving touchdown that came from the hands of junior quarterback Alex Stolley, who was 8-for-9 passing for a season-high 154 yards and three touchdowns.

In the second quarter, Maas then scored on a two-yard run and junior Risten Allred caught his first career touchdown pass on a 34-yard strike from Stolley as Bonners Ferry took a 42-6 lead heading into the locker room.

It was much of the same in the second half as Hiatt broke free for a career-long 90-yard touchdown run, and after a Timberlake score, Maas ripped off an 85-yard touchdown run of his own for a 56-14 advantage.

To cap off the night, sophomore Caden Bates hauled in a 9-yard reception for his first career touchdown and senior Spiro Petras punched in a 1-yard run for his first touchdown of the season for Bonners Ferry, which posted 552 yards of total offense.

On defense, the Badgers got to the Tigers' quarterback and running backs early and often as they limited Timberlake to 108 rushing yards on 33 carries. Hiatt, Abubakari and senior Kai Aitken all caused fumbles. Hiatt and junior Taylor Dodd tied for a team-high eight tackles and Dodd, Maas, Hiatt, Bates and senior Daric Vincent were all involved in multiple tackles for losses in what was Bonners Ferry's largest margin of victory this season.

Senior Giovanni Faroni defended two passes and junior Easton Scarborough added 38 yards of total offense for Bonners Ferry (7-2), which will carry a five-game winning streak into the 4A state playoffs. The Badgers' first-round matchup will be announced early next week.
