MERIDIAN — Overrated?
Not these Panthers.
They’ve been preparing for this moment non-stop since last year’s loss in the state 4A boys soccer championship match at The Fields at Real Life in Post Falls.
Top-seeded Coeur d’Alene Charter, behind goals from sophomore Brooks Judd and senior Joseph Nicklay, beat fourth-seeded Sun Valley Community School 2-0 in a semifinal on Friday at Owyhee High to advance to the program’s second straight title match.
“We’ve talked about being prepared and know what we’re facing,” fifth-year Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Craig Daigle said. “Sun Valley, they’re used to taking a bunch of shots and getting a lot of chances on goal. But outside of one shot, they really didn’t get many chances today.”
Coeur d’Alene Charter, which finished runner-up to Wendell in 2024, has allowed only two goals all season.
“Our defense was incredible again today,” Daigle said. “Bridger (Crawford) was just incredible. Stefan (Pawlick), our holding midfielder, he was clearing stuff away and they never really had much of a threat. Sun Valley, I think, believed we were an overrated team from up north. We talked about our game plan, and scored off what we’d been talking about and executed our plan perfectly.”
Coeur d’Alene Charter (16-1-1) faces third-seeded McCall-Donnelly (15-1-1) today at 2 p.m. PDT in the championship match at Meridian High.
It is the first matchup between the schools since 2023.
“It’s always been a great matchup for us and test at the beginning of the year,” Daigle said. “We’ll go watch film on them tonight and again tomorrow. I think we’ll be prepared.”
Sun Valley Community School (15-3-3) faces Wendell (15-2-3) in the third-place match today at Owyhee High.
First half — 1, Charter, Brooks Judd, 34:30. Second half — 2, Charter, Joseph Nicklay (Judd), 62:30.
Shots on goal — SV 3, Charter 8.
Saves — SV, Cal Davis 4; Charter, Mattis Macmillan 3.
