Pirates, Bulldogs earn spot in Boys A soccer championship

COLUMBIA FALLS — It took penalty kicks, but Polson is into the boys State A soccer championship match with a 6-5 shootout win over Columbia Falls.


Great performances from Columbia Falls’ Brady Heitz and Polson’s Maddox Bird in goal saw the game end 1-1 after overtime. 


Donovan Beeks scored the opener for the Pirates in the ninth minute. 


Jack Harris responded nine minutes later to tie the game, then the goalkeepers shut down the rest. 


Polson’s win gives the Pirates home field advantage in Saturday’s championship match against Whitefish.

WHITEFISH — Rowan Perkins scored a first half free kick and Whitefish added three second half goals to down Stevensville 4-0 and advance to the Class A boys soccer state championship game Saturday at Smith Fields. 


Perkins 24th minute set piece broke the ice as Whitefish returns to the championship match for the eighth time in the last nine seasons. The Bulldogs have won five titles in that timeframe. 


Grayson Rembaugh added the second tally in the 64th minute on a Griffin Johnson assist. 


Henry Barbieri and Tyler Larkin sealed the victory with goals in the final 10 minutes. 


Judah Colt and Ben Dow added assists on the final two goals. 


Charlie Dow made one save for the Bulldogs, while Ben Nelson added four saves. 


The Bulldogs outshot the Yellowjackets 14-7.
