NOAH HARRIS | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 1 month, 1 week AGO
Freshman Brecken Miller finished in 9th place, freshman Gordon Woelfle finished in 14th and Bonners Ferry boys cross country placed second by a single point at the 4A District Championships to ensure they will run at the 4A IHSAA Cross Country Championship.
Sophomore Kylie Calderone finished in 8th place to move onto state individually. She has placed highly in several events this season, including first place at the Ben Castro Invitational. The five male athletes going to state for the Badgers are Miller, Woelfle, Brock Tuma, Micah Thomson and Tyler Cordle.
State will be held in Lewiston this year and will be hosted by Lewis-Clark College.
In the boys race, Miller finished in 18 minutes, 53 seconds, which was crucially before any Coeur D’Alene Charter Academy runners finished. Woelfle (14th, 20:10) was the third fastest freshman in the race. Sophomore Brock Tuma (17th, 20:49) placed just three places behind Woelfle and senior Micah Thomson (24th, 21:39,) finished less than a minute behind Tuma.
Freshman Carson Schutte (27th, 22:37), freshman Tyler Cordle (29th, 24:08) and senior Colton Cohen (32nd, 45:07) helped Bonners Ferry reach state.
The Bonners Ferry girls team finished in third place, one place away from qualification to state. Calderone ran the 5,000 meters in 21 minutes, 30 seconds. Sophomore Cheyenne Schutte (12th, 23:29) and junior Gia Roemer (13th, 24:08) placed back-to-back for the Badgers.
Sophomore Kya Alderman (15th, 24:23), freshman Marissa Pruitt (16th, 25:06), sophomore Abigail Huggins (17th, 26:11) and freshman Hailey Reeves (18th, 27:22) finished right behind each other. Freshman Kinzie Bradley (21st, 28:15) and sophomore Elle Sheets (22nd, 28:36) rounded out the times for Bonners Ferry.
