Shoshone News-Press | UPDATED 1 month, 1 week AGO
Maurice “Maury” McNamee, Jr., passed away Oct. 13, 2025, in Osburn, Idaho. He was born Oct. 30, 1949, to Maurice and Alice (Arms) McNamee.
Maury spent much of his life working in the mining industry, where his strong work ethic and easy-going nature earned the respect of everyone who knew him. He retired from the Galena Mine in 2023, grateful for the friendships and memories made along the way.
Maury proudly served his country in Vietnam, an experience that shaped his strength, resilience and appreciation for life’s simple blessings. He was also a proud member of the Wallace Elks, where he found fellowship and purpose among lifelong friends.
Maury loved the simple joys of life — hunting, fishing, camping, watching movies, taking side-by-side rides, walking his dog and relaxing with a cold Budweiser. But more than anything, Maury loved his family. He was happiest when surrounded by the people he cared about, always ready to lend a helping hand or simply spend time visiting and sharing stories. He had a big heart and a quiet strength that made everyone feel loved and supported.
The greatest joy of Maurie’s life was his beloved wife, Karen. From the day they married Feb. 1, 2002, Maury and Karen were inseparable partners in every sense—sharing laughter, adventures, and an unshakable devotion to one another. Maury's love for Karen was constant and deep; she was truly the light of his life. When Karen passed away in June 2023, a piece of Maurie’s heart went with her. Now, they are reunited again, just as they were meant to be.
Maury was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Alice McNamee; his sister, Dorothy; his brother, Mike McNamee; and his cherished wife, Karen.
He leaves behind his daughters: Angela Thompson and Julie (Shane) Orton; his siblings: Gloria Pecor, Jackie (Fred) Stepro, Cathy (Tim) Sargent, Donna (Robert) Brengman, and Marty McNamee; his sister-in-law, Lynette McNamee; as well as his grandchildren: Bradley Chapman, Ethan Orton, Kayden Orton, Julius Thompson, Abagail Thompson and Isabel Thompson; extended family members, and many friends who loved him dearly.
Maury's love for his family was boundless, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A celebration of Maury's life will be held at the Wallace Elks on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025, at 2 p.m. Please visit Maury’s online memorial and sign his guestbook at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
