Troy recognized its four senior volleyball players Saturday evening during the season finale match against Plains.
Ellie Borgmann, Mellissa Laffoon, Brooklyn Reid and Halle Wallace were honored for their contributions to the program.
While the Trotters won in four sets, 25-17, 25-21, 23-25, 25-16, head coach Kimberly Kiln’s Lady Trojans squad gave the fans their money’s worth.
In the first set, only an 8-0 Plains run to end it separated both teams. Plains led 10-9 before the Lady Trojans moved ahead 12-10 on Wallace’s serving. Plains came back to tie it at 13-13 but an ace by Borgmann put Troy up 14-13.
After another mini surge by the Trotters, Ainsley Huitron’s smash gave Troy a 16-15 lead. Following a Plains timeout, the Trotters took a brief lead, but a big hit by Addyson Fisher made it 17-17.
Unfortunately for Troy that was its last point.
In the second set, the back-and-forth affair was close until late. The Lady Trojan’s last lead, 11-10, came on a block by Fisher. Plains pulled away a bit, taking a 21-15 lead before Troy’s service ace by Huitron made it 21-18. But the Trotters held on for the win.
Troy used a good start in the third set to avoid the sweep. Laffoon served for two points in Troy’s 5-1 spurt to open the set. Troy built its lead to five points twice, 15-10 and 23-18.
Troy freshman Kaydence Gamache served two aces while Huitron and Laffoon each blocked Plains shots and Reid’s smash helped key a 25-23 win.
Looking to force a game 5, Troy once again jumped out to a 5-1 lead with Laffoon served two aces and Fisher added a smash at the net.
Plains methodically worked its way back to take the lead for good, 15-14 on the way to a 25-16 win.
