Heat play three five-set matches in five days

Coach Maria Begger and her Savage Heat volleyball team like to get their money’s worth out of matches, and received full five-set returns on their investments last week.
Playing to the full extent of possible five-set matches each time, the Heat lost 28-30, 17-25, 25-17, 25-22, 15-6 in Plains Tuesday, fell 25-14, 26-28, 25-17 22-25, 15-4 to Mission in Hot Springs Thursday and dropped a 25-23, 25-27, 23-25, 25-21, 15-13 decision to Seeley-Swan in Seeley Lake Saturday.
Begger and her Savage Heat will now play in the district 14C tournament in Charlo beginning Thursday (please see other story).
Against Sanders County rival Plains, Lanet Jakabosky hit seven kills, blocked seven shots and smacked two service aces, Dakota Slonaker hit 17 digs, Callie Cano 30 set assists and Kara Christensen two more service aces.
In the match with Mission, Slonaker hit 11 kills and five service aces, Christensen 14 digs, Cano 22 set assists and Jakabosky three blocks.
At Seeley Lake, Christensen led the Savage Heat with 14 kills, 14 digs and three aces, Jakabosky hit 14 kills and blocked four shots, and Cano passed out 37 set assists.

It wasn’t originally scheduled to go down this way, but the 2026 Gary Thompson Invitational was held at River’s Bend outside of Thompson Falls May 5, and local players dotted the leader board at tourney’s end.
