Annual Northern Rockies Snow and Avalanche Workshop is Nov. 8

The Flathead Avalanche Center will host the 15th Annual Northern Rockies Snow and Avalanche Workshop on Saturday, Nov. 8 at the Whitefish Performing Arts Center.  

This event serves as the premier gathering for winter enthusiasts, professionals, and anyone interested in avalanche safety and education across the Northern Rockies. The workshop offers a full day of engaging presentations and educational opportunities featuring seven sessions led by renowned experts in snow science, avalanches, human factors and winter sports. From seasoned backcountry pros to those new to the snow, the workshop provides valuable insights for all levels of experience. 

This year’s theme, “What Do We Know About…?”, explores the latest in snow science, human factors and risk management. Featured speakers include Zahan “Z” Billimoria, international mountain guide and Patagonia ambassador; Pascal Haegeli, PhD, university professor and avalanche researcher; Julie Ann “Julz” Holder, an AMGA Certified Ski Guide and founder of Grounding Truth Holistic Guiding; Lydia Willoughby, manager at Wild North Guides and AIARE instructor; Joseph Messina, a National Weather Service meteorologist; and Ron Simenhois, avalanche forecaster and researcher.  

In addition to the expert talks, participants can enjoy booths from the 2025 sponsors, showcasing the latest gear, innovations and resources for winter sport enthusiasts. The Northern Rockies Snow and Avalanche Workshop also boasts the best winter-based raffle in the valley, offering a chance to win top-tier prizes to gear up for the upcoming winter season.  

Doors open at 9 a.m. Nov. 8. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
