The Whitefish Theatre Company is holding auditions for “World Builders” by Johnna Adams, the second Black Curtain production of the 2025-2026 season.

In this play, characters Whitney and Max live in their own imaginary worlds. They are both patients in a clinical trial at Johns Hopkins Hospital experimenting with a new drug — a treatment that will cure them of their schizophrenic dreams and dissolve the worlds into which they retreat. With their memories progressively dwindling as the pills take effect, Whitney and Max agree to preserve each other’s creations by exchanging stories and recording the details of what they hear. As the act of sharing and the drugs’ effects replace dissociative fantasy with vivid emotion, the two stumble into mutual respect and sweetly fall in love. When the end of the study, and the continued obligation to medicate, puts both worlds and the relationship in further peril, Whitney and Max must decide whether to cling to the happiness they have built or abandon it in hopes of a “normal” life.

Auditions will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 2 at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish. Participants are asked to arrive early to fill out an audition application, complete a waiver form and review the script. People may enter through the north side of the building.

The cast calls for one man and one woman. No experience or preparation is necessary to audition. Pages from the script will be provided. If you would like to familiarize yourself with the script, you can pick up a copy of the script from the box office, which is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays. Rehearsals for “World Builders” will begin immediately following auditions, with performances Nov. 15 and 16.

Please note that this is a Black Curtain Reading with minimal set and costumes, and the actors will be reading from their scripts. It is a great opportunity for actors of all experience levels to get on stage.
