Boundary County Skatepark vandalized

The Boundary County Skatepark was recently vandalized with graffiti.
The vandalism was reported Oct. 28. Boundary County Dispatch officials said the sheriff’s office has previously investigated and prosecuted graffiti cases.
“Having a safe place for skaters is more vital than ever,” Boundary County Skatepark Alliance officials wrote in a statement following the vandalism. “Like the saying goes, if you don't have a skate park, you still have skate places — in parking lots, on roads and public buildings.”
While it is unknown when the vandalism took place, photos of the graffiti were posted to social media on Oct. 26.
A variety of graffiti words and phrases were painted throughout the park, including the two biggest ramps and a small structure in the middle of the park.
The vandalism comes as the Boundary County Skatepark Alliance works to build a permanent skatepark in Bonners Ferry. Since its inception, BCSA has raised more than $15,000 with a goal of $465,000 to build the skatepark.
The proposal also includes installing a Wi-Fi and phone charging station at the site. In addition, security cameras would be installed.
“Local law would have access to all our cams, which would enhance public safety and help detect motion after hours,” BCSA officials said. “This unfortunate act demonstrates why we want to clean up that park and build a concrete park.”
